Fewer people care these days about the authenticity of the language be it BE or AE.

Foreigners could be cute, but they still speak funny, from native speakers' perspective. Authentic language is an exciting challenge for us, infidels.

We can't make our language authentic even if we try hard living in Russia. My Friend Ray Reeder ( peace corp. volunteer from the USA) used to say: "Your English is better and grammaticaly more correct than mine, but you'll never speak authentic English. You should have been born there." It was about 20 years ago in Armenia when I first met him. He came to Armenia as a peace corp volunteer and stayed there forever. He married a woman from Russia, who had been living there for many years. Now when I visit him, he speaks three languages: none of which is authentic...laugh.gif

The most striking inauthentic feature here is that we persist in using English among us - speakers of Russian. Should there be at least one person among us who would be unable to follow our Russian conversation, no probloem of communicative authenticity would arise. The best authentic way to air one's English is amongst the English language native speakers. Why masquerade? The only relief is that so far none of us has initiatied correcting "mistakes" supposedly made by one of the company.

for practice

this is a forum for english teachers

I do not mind if there is no better chance. But ... Non-natives setting each other a non-native example create their own language conventions. And still. It's certainly a good idea! )))

If you study the forum materials thoroughly you'll see that teachers of English have discussions in Russian in most cases here.

It's not an English speaking forum. Yet when I first signed in here, I hoped to find someone who could discuss everything in English.

Hello there,

I'm not sure if you guys saw our old school project on the active vocabulary list for NME 10. Readability of some texts is also discussed there.

Your feedback is welcome.

Enjoy
