"This interactive timeline will allow you to explore British Library collection items chronologically, from medieval times to the present day. It includes a diverse combination of texts: those that allow glimpses of everyday life (handbills, posters, letters, diaries), remnants of political events (charters, speeches, campaign leaflets), and the writings of some of our best known historical and literary figures." If you want your students to listen to a short recording (a sentence, a few sentences, a few words etc) but you haven't got the recording, the website http://www.oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_...ple.php?sitepal may be very useful. This website will pronounce whatever you type in several languages and in different voices (male, female...) with different regional accents (UK, US, Australian...) - you choose!
