“Hear ye! On this day, the 2nd of May, the year 2015, we welcome with humble duty, the second-born of the royal highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The princess is fourth in line to the throne. May our princess be long-lived, happy, and glorious and one day long to reign over. God save the queen!”
Kensington Palace has announced the arrival of a new princess after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby girl. The baby weighed in at 8 pounds 3 ounces (3.71 kilograms) and the Duke of Cambridge, her father, was present for the birth.

Though she hasn’t been named just yet, the palace said that mother and daughter were both doing well. Members of the Royal Family have been informed and are said to be delighted with the news.

Kate was a number of days overdue and had been taken to the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital at 6 AM this morning.

Police were standing guard outside the entrance to the wing as the world’s media waited for news of the birth. Fans had gathered in anticipation and were delighted at the news of a new princess.

“It’s a girl!”

“You give me sunshine!”
Difficult words: humble (to show that you are less important than other things), duty (something that you must do), glorious (great), reign (be the queen), announce (to say something to people), overdue (late with the childbirth), wing (a small part of a bigger place), in anticipation (being excited), to be delighted (to be very happy and to show it).

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their newborn baby daughter. The two royals are better known as Prince William and his wife Kate. Their daughter was born on Saturday and since then the world has been waiting to see what the new arrival would be called. The parents waited two days before they told the world. Their new baby is called Charlotte. She also has two middle names, Elizabeth and Diana. Her official title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. She is fourth in line to the British throne. This means that if her grandfather (Prince Charles), father, and brother (Prince George) all die, she will be Britain's queen after Queen Elizabeth passes away.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-32583432  By Peter Hunt, BBC royal correspondent

Hard facts and royal pregnancies, labours and births are not natural bedfellows.

They represent a moment where the very personal, a couple celebrating the arrival of a daughter, collide with the very public - the father is a future king.

So, we don't know why William and Kate chose Charlotte as the first name of the fourth in line to the throne.

It conveniently has links to the Middletons, the present Windsors and past royals.

Elizabeth and Diana are more obvious choices.

Prince William has spoken of how, as he becomes older, his grandmother has become an even more important part of his life.

And it was inevitable that he would honour his mother and inevitable that he wouldn't "burden" his daughter with Diana as a first name.

As William said when he gave his fiancee his mother's engagement ring, it's a way of keeping her "close to it all".
