Предлагаю примеры культурологических текстов, составленных по материалам журнала ENGLISHHOME для отработки дат и порядковых числительных и простого прошедшего времени.

Vivien Leigh (EnglishHome, 2006, # 3)

Vivien Leigh, born Vivien Mary Hartley on November 5, 1913 in Darjeeling, India, made only 20 films from 1935 to 1965. Most of them she made in the 1930s/ Her relatively short life and career was a series of ups and downs.

As a 22-year-old starlet ['sta:lit] (восходящая звезда) in 1935 she saw Laurence Olivier on the London stage. In 1940 they married. Sir Laurence Olivier was thr great love of her life, and she acted with him on the British stage for 20 years. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role Gone with the Wind. She won her second Oscar for her role in A Streetcar Named Desire.

She struggled with alcoholism and mental illness most of her life. She was a heavy smoker, and died of tuberculosis (TB) at the age of 53. It happened on July 7, 1967.

 

May Day (EnglishHome, 2007, # 5)

In 1899, at the Marxist International Socialist Congress in Paris, a resolution was passed calling for "a great international demonstration" for 8 hour day. It had to take place on 1 May, 1890. On that date demostrations took place in the USA , Chile, Peru, Cuba, and many countries in Europe.

Russia, Brasil and Ireland began to celibrate May Day in 1891. China first celibrated May Day in 1920. The holiday had spread to India in 1927.

May Day became a worldwide holiday. The date was chosen to commemorate the union fight for the 8 hour day in the United State.

Спасибо огромное!!! Точно в тему! Я , кстати, заметила, что числительные нужно повторять, практически, постоянно- детки забывают их быстро.

И числительные, и Past Simple, и многое ещё чего дети забывают очнь быстро, если не повторять и не закреплять.

Вот поэтому и тружусь, подбираю, составляю такие мини-текстики разной сложности в смысле лексики, длины предложений, тем. Потому что начальная школа, 5-7 класс - это одно, а повторение со старшеклассниками (к ним я отношу 8-11 классы) это другое. Опять же учитывать приходится и слабые познания наших учеников во многих областях жизни, культуры не только зарубежной.

Wales (School English, 2007, #7)

 

The Celts arrived in Wales in the 6th and 7th centuries B.C. (before Christ = до нашей эры). In 43 A.D. (Anno Domini – наша эра) the Romans invided and defeated them. The Romans also killed a large number of Druids who were the Celtic religious leaders. Many Eurupean saints travelled to Wales as Christian missionaries in the 5th and 6th centuries A.D. The Saxons pushed the Welsh farther to the West until, in the 8th century a Saxon king called Offa built a long ditch (ров) or dyke to keep them out of England.

The Welsh fought for many years to win back their freedom. Вut in 1301 Edward I of England made his eldest son Prince of Wales. In 1536 Henry VIII brought Wales under the English parliament. London began to govern Wales in the 16th century. In today’s Government there is a special department and minister for Welsh affairs.

 

 

Leonardo DiCaprio (School English, 2007, #7)

 

Leonardo DiCaprio was born on the 11th of November, 1974. His father was an Italian-American comic books distributor. His mother was a legal secretary and later became Leonardo’ manager.In 1990 he went on to cast for the role of Garry Backman in Parentshood. Still in 1990, Leo appeared in American soap opera Santa Barbara. He beat 400 hopefuls to the role of Toby in This Boy’s Life in 1992.In 1993 he obtained an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and a Golden Globe nomination for his role in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.. In 1997 he made his role in the romantic drama Titanic . It gave Leo his 2nd Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance. In 2002 he appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can. In 2004 Leo re-teamed with Scorsese for the drama The Aviator. And it was an Oscar nomination again. The Departed and Blood Diamond (2006) both earned him the 2006 Golden Globes and Broadcast Film Critics Association nomination for Best Actor.
