Brainstorming is a group or individual creativity technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members.

I give you 3 problem situations, try to guess the answer.

 

Situation #1

A man walks into a bar and asks the barman for a glass of water. The barman pulls out a gun and points it at the man. The man says 'Thank you' and leaves. Why?

 

Situation #2

Anthony and Cleopatra are lying dead on the floor of a villa in Egypt. Nearby is a broken bowl. There is no mark on either of their bodies and they were not poisoned. How did they die?

 

Situation #3

Five pieces of coal, a carrot and a scarf are lying on the lawn. Nobody put them on the lawn but there is a perfectly logical reason why they are there. What is it? :P/> :D/> :P/>

Прием конечно хороший и эффективный, хорошо себя зарекомендовал в мировой практике. Вот только готовы ли наши учащиеся да и сами учителя использовать его в работе? Здесь ведь есть очень много подводных камней с учетом наших педагогических традиций.

Прием конечно хороший и эффективный, хорошо себя зарекомендовал в мировой практике. Вот только готовы ли наши учащиеся да и сами учителя использовать его в работе? Здесь ведь есть очень много подводных камней с учетом наших педагогических традиций.

Я brainstorming использую обычно в начале урока перед вводом новой темы либо для закрепления новой лексики. В начале урока перед вводом темы прошу учеников сказать что они знают о проблеме. Например, говорили о ролях в семье. Попросила рассказать какие роли в семье могут быть. После того, как ученики выдали несколько банальных идей (есть мужские и женские обязанности), спросила как могут распределяться роли в других странах, например, в исламских. Обсудили правильно ли это, что женщина вообще в таких странах не должна работать. Потом попросила подумать о ролях в семьях в США и роли женщин. Тут важно для учителя подкидывать новые точки зрения и направлять обсуждение так, чтобы даже самому ленивому ученику захотелось высказаться. Если нет у учеников идей, то предложить идею и спросить что они о ней думают, нравится или нет и почему.

При отработке новой лексики тоже стараюсь попросить найти решения для конкретных проблем (очень понравились логические задачки Татьяны Викторовны, обязательно использую!), идеи беру из литературы (художественных произведений), для старшеклассников ищу case studies по темам и люблю использовать книги для креатив-боев, автор с необычной фамилией А. Гин. Очень разнообразит работу!

Hm, maybe he had hiccups and wanted water to get rid of hiccups? And the barman decided to frighten him as some people believe that is a cure for hiccups?

The man is a secret-service man. The phrase about water must be a password. The gun shows the situation like We can't speak here.

Подобные логические задачки способствуют развитию аргументированного ответа и так называемого opinion talk. Кроме того, не сомневаюсь, они вызывают интерес не только у учащихся, но и у взрослых. Также они способствуют изучению нового лексического материала, если, конечно, ответ давать на английском языке, а не на русском.

Situation #4

 

The manager of an important bank had just arrived at work one morning when one of his employees came into his office. The man told the manager that while he was asleep that night, he had dreamt that there was a bomb in the bank vaults. The manager agreed to look in the vaults and, in fact, a bomb was found. The manager thanked the man and then told him he had lost his job. Why?

 

Situation #5

 

One day two sisters decided to clean out the old shed at the bottom of the garden. When they had finished , one of them had a dirty face and the other had a clean face. The sister with the clean face went and washed her face but the girl with the dirty face did not wash. Why?

 

Situation #6

 

A man looked through a window on the sixth floor of an office building . Suddenly, he opened the window and jumped through it. He didn't use a parachute or land in water or on anything soft. However, he wasn't hurt. How could that be?

 

Situation #7

 

A woman in a restaurant complained to the waiter because there was a fly in her cup of coffee. The waiter took the cup away and promised to bring a fresh cup of coffee. He returned a few moments later. The woman tasted the coffee and complained that this was her original cup of coffee . Was she right and how did she know?
