Tought your nose Tought your eyes Tought your hair Tought it twice Tought your ears Tought your hips Tought your feet Be active please! Tought your mouth Tought your eyes Tought your cheeks Tought them twice Tought your back Tought your knees Tought the Sun Sit down please! See me What do you see, what do you see? Are you thinking, when you look at me- A crabbit old woman, not very wise, Uncertain of habit, with far-away eyes, Who dribbles her food and makes no reply When you say in a loud voice, I do wish you'd try. Who seems not to notice the things that you do And forever is loosing a stocking or shoe. Who, unresisting or not; lets you do as you will With bathing and feeding the long day is fill. Is that what you're thinking, Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse, you're looking at me. I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still! As I rise at your bidding, as I eat at your will. I'm a small child of 10 with a father and mother, Brothers and sisters, who loved one another- A young girl of 16 with wings on her feet, Dreaming that soon now a lover she'll meet, A bride soon at 20- my heart gives a leap, Remembering the vows that I promised to keep. At 25 now I have young of my own Who need me to build a secure happy home; A woman of 30, my young now grow fast, Bound to each other with ties that should last; At 40, my young sons have grown and are gone, But my man's beside me to see I don't mourn; At 50 once more babies play around my knee, Again we know children, my loved one and me. Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead, I look at the future, I shudder with dread, For my young are all rearing young of their own. And I think of the years and the love that I've known; I'm an old woman now and nature is cruel- Tis her jest to make old age look like a fool. The body is crumbled, grace and vigor depart, There is now a stone where I once had a heart, But inside this old carcass, a young girl still dwells, And now and again my battered heart swells, I remember the joy, I remember the pain, And I'm loving and living life over again. I think of the years all too few- gone too fast. And accept the stark fact that nothing can last- So open your eyes, nurse, open and see, Not a crabbit old woman, look closer- See Me. The Tiger (by William Blake) TIGER, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? And what shoulder and what art Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand and what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? What dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears, And water'd heaven with their tears, Did He smile His work to see? Did He who made the lamb make thee? DARK FORESTS Dark forests...Northern...Sourthern Mountains, Fierce tigers circle around the villages in broad daylight. ...To The red dawn of twilight The skies shine bright Protecting what is theirs In the magic of the night The tigers roam everywhere taking lives for food. The Majesty of the tigers power, The prey dare not make a sound. The new kin tiger sprout every year In the valleys low. Male and female tigers come up and down the mountains in large groups. There is a village near the tigers’ dens in the valley, Where tigers often come and eat the villagers’ brown calves. Rich young men dare not shoot the arrows at the tigers. The Majesty of the Tiger lives forever The Majesty of the Tiger They only pretend to check for the tigers’ tracks in the forests. Tiger Tiger with coat of dissimilar stripes, When he’s angry, tiger swipes, Tiger cautious, guarding his lair, Danger lurking, tiger aware. Tiger hungry so he hunts, Facing quarry, tiger confronts. Tiger waiting, being sly, Undercover, no tiger espy. Tiger detects, now he purrs, Hunger pangs, tiger stirs. Tiger quick, must now surprise, Here we have one tiger, wise. Tiger from his throat he roars, Stretching out those tiger claws. Tiger moving, stealthy pelt, Expiration, by tiger dealt. Tiger now with belly filled, Anger passed, one tiger stilled. Tiger sleeping, with the Pride, Craving gone, tiger satisfied. Tiger such a majestic sight, Near extinction, tiger fight. Tiger beautiful and fine, You’re such a leonine feline. Tiger we must have respect, , For your great tiger intellect.

Tiger Pursuit To some, the tiger looks so cute, With so much feline charm... But when the tiger's in pursuit, Who knows who'll come to harm? Although the tiger's face looks sweet, It hides sharp teeth that bite! He's not a cat to meet and greet Or bravely choose to fight! It's true, the tiger loves his friends And welcomes them with glee... And yet, that's where all friendship ends - So I'd prefer to flee! I'd soon be off, if he were close! Too close for comfort's sake! I'd soon be standing on my toes - I'd run, make no mistake! Perhaps the tiger could be tamed... Fried chicken, bacon, chops? I'm out of those! I could be maimed! Too late to call the cops! I'm on my own! I'm on my Todd! I'm off, without a doubt! Quite frantic, friends, I'd pray to God! 'Dear Lord! Please help me out! ' I'd not be praying on my knees Or talking politics... I'd not be swapping recipes Or teaching tiger tricks! I'd not attempt to stroke his fur And smile with winsome grin! My little legs would be a blur! I'd scat to save my skin! I've never been where tigers hunt Or sunbathed where they roam! And frankly, friends, to be quite blunt, Scared stiff, I'd stay at home! The poem is based on the magnificent painting by Stephen Gayford called 'Tiger Pursuit'. In the first space put the name of an animal. Then try and think what would make the animal have that feeling. What would make a dog happy? The first line might be - I'm as happy as a dog with a bone. But that would be a bit boring. What would make a lizard happy? I'm as happy as a lizard with a hot rock to sit upon. Now you try :- I'm as happy as a_______________with a________________ I'm as happy as a _______________in a __________________ I'm as lonely as a _______________in a __________________ I'm as sad as a _________________without its _____________ I'm as unhappy as a ______________that's lost its ___________ I'm as happy as a __________________________ I'm as sad as a ____________________________ I'm as lonely as a___________________________ Here are some animals to choose from :- monkey snake lion cat elephant giraffe eagle leopard zebra donkey tiger duck grasshopper wasp ostrich camel tortoise pig butterfly cobra horse fish whale squirrel dinosaur duck dragon chimpanzee donkey dog wolf cat koala bear hippo rhino sparrow turkey rat mouse squirrel antelope lizard dolphin slug snail frog cheetah shark Now write it out as a poem. top of page A poem about feelings Name..................................................................................... If the people in your family were animals, what animals would they be? Would your brother be a monkey? Would your mum be a beautiful gazelle or a cuddly Koala bear? Choose animals that remind you of your family. You have to give reasons! Just saying your brother is like a monkey is not good enough. A single flow'r he sent me, since we met.All tenderly his messenger he chose;Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet -One perfect rose.I knew the language of the floweret;'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'Love long has taken for his amuletOne perfect rose. Why is it no one ever sent me yetOne perfect limousine, do you suppose?Ah no, it's always just my luck to getOne perfect rose. Once, when I was young and true,Someone left me sad-Broke my brittle heart in two;And that is very bad.Love is for unlucky folk,Love is but a curse.Once there was a heart I broke; And that, I think, is worse. I do not like my state of mind;I'm bitter, querulous, unkind.I hate my legs, I hate my hands,I do not yearn for lovelier lands.I dread the dawn's recurrent light;I hate to go to bed at night.I snoot at simple, earnest folk.I cannot take the gentlest joke.I find no peace in paint or type.My world is but a lot of tripe.I'm disillusioned, empty-breasted.For what I think, I'd be arrested.I am not sick, I am not well.My quondam dreams are shot to hell.My soul is crushed, my spirit sore;I do not like me any more.I cavil, quarrel, grumble, grouse.I ponder on the narrow house.I shudder at the thought of men....I'm due to fall in love again.
Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone. For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,But has trouble enough of its own.Sing, and the hills will answer; Sigh, it is lost on the air.The echoes bound to a joyful sound,But shrink from voicing care.Rejoice, and men will seek you; Grieve, and they turn and go.They want full measure of all your pleasure,But they do not need your woe.Be glad, and your friends are many; Be sad, and you lose them all. There are none to decline your nectared wine,But alone you must drink life's gall.Feast, and your halls are crowded; Fast, and the world goes by.Succeed and give, and it helps you live,But no man can help you die. There is room in the halls of pleasureFor a long and lordly train,But one by one we must all file onThrough the narrow aisles of pain. Ella Wheeler Wilcox I am not yours, not lost in you,Not lost, although I long to beLost as a candle lit at noon,Lost as a snowflake in the sea.You love me, and I find you stillA spirit beautiful and bright,Yet I am I, who long to beLost as a light is lost in light.Oh plunge me deep in love--put outMy senses, leave me deaf and blind,Swept by the tempest of your love,A taper in a rushing wind.
